As an Osteopathic Manual Practitoner, I do not treat the disease symptoms. Instead by working on the structure and function of the body, supporting its natural ability to self-regulate by design. Just as servicing your car with a mechanic to ensure optimal function, the body is no different than a machine requiring optimal fluid dynamics, and structural alignment to maintain its optimal performance.
"The body is a unit, capable of self- healing and self-regulation, stucture and function are interrelated, well rounded Osteopathic treatment is based on these principles".

The integration period is typically at rest, a good night's rest will allow this process to occur. Similar to working out at the gym, it may feel like the tissues have changed in their typical use as joint restriction is removed. Feeling tired right after is a result of a downregulation of the autonomic nervous system , this is a normal response as this work is very relaxing to the body, this is temporary.
Compensation patterns begin forming early in life which is the body’s natural way of adapting to daily stressors and gravitational forces. While this is a normal and functional response, problems arise when these patterns become fixated or reinforced by repetitive activities, poor posture, or chronic stress. Over time this can reduce mobility, increase wear on the body, and lead to discomfort or injury.
A large percentage of the population copes with daily health problems based on compensation patterns. They have learned to live with these issues and the long list of symptoms they produce, commonly thinking this is just the new normal and nothing can be done. This is a very common thought process, Osteopathic manual therapy when done right can remove or greatly improve upon these daily struggles.
Everyone responds differently to treatment, depending on their health history and how long the issues have been present. Generally by the third to fourth treatment we will have a clearer sense of how your body is responding to treatment. Much improvement can be noted within this window. Some individuals may require more focused or ongoing care to address deeper long-standing patterns. Treatment is tailored to the individual, working with the body never forcing change.
